Service Update – NSW North CoastFloods

Thursday 16th June 2011

Rain has eased and flood peaks are receding however the Pacific Highway remains closed from the South at the Hastings River (just north of Port Macquarie) and from the north at Clybucca (north of Kempsey). As a result we are unable to access the Kempsey area by road.

Indications from the RTA are that the Highway through Kempsey is unlikely to open until Sunday 19th June.

The status of our freight movements is as follows:-

  • Linehaul movements to Brisbane ,  Gold Coast, Grafton and Lismore held up by the floods on Tuesday night have now made their destinations by diverting via the New England Highway .
  • Freight despatched Tuesday for Coffs Harbour will depart Sydney today via the New England highway and will be available for delivery tomorrow (17th June).
  • Freight despatched ex Sydney yesterday (15th June) for all destinations apart from Coffs Harbour and Kempsey has travelled and will be available on schedule.
  • Freight despatched ex Sydney yesterday (15th June) for Coffs Harbour will depart Sydney today via the New England Highway and will be available for delivery tomorrow (17th June).
  • Freight from Brisbane to Coffs Harbour has arrived in Coffs Harbour this morning and will be delivered as normal.
  • Freight ex Brisbane despatched Tuesday (14th June) for Port Macquarie and Taree was transhipped back to these ports from Sydney last night and is available for delivery today (16th June).
  • Freight ex Brisbane despatched today for Port Macquarie and Taree will be available for delivery on Monday 20th June.
  • Pt Macquarie has no access to Kempsey, South West Rocks, outlying areas of Wauchope and North of the Hastings River .
  • Taree has no access to Harrington and Old Bar with some outlying areas still inaccessible.
  • Freight ex Brisbane despatched Wednesday (15th June) to Port Macquarie and Taree is currently in Sydney and will be forwarded to these ports tonight for delivery tomorrow (17th June).

Given current predictions for road conditions over the next 24 hours the expectation is that:

  • Sydney freight despatched today for all destinations north apart from Coffs Harbour and Kempsey will be available for delivery at the destination on schedule.
  • freight despatched today for Coffs Harbour will be available for delivery in that centre on Monday 20th June.
  • Freight ex Brisbane into Newcastle will arrive today, but will be too late for normal deliveries. Newcastle will recover where possible.
  • Macksville, Dorrigo and Bellingen are now accessible.
  • Singleton has restricted access to some outlying areas including Merriwa.
